The emphasis of Yma is very much on dance and the creators had a very clear idea that all the routines had to differ in ambience and dance techniques. This is why this big production required the work of as many as nine choreographers, each one of them bringing their own distinctive trademark to the revue. The show is a harmonious mixture of the most diverse dance styles, from classical ballet to jazz, from modern dance to tap, from hip-hop to contemporary and from Latin-American to funky. Hence the performers, who are all classically trained, are required to be extremely versatile in all these other styles and for the first time at Friedrichstadt-Palast (Berlin) are expected to deliver excellence in acrobatics too...

Behind the Scenes with...

Alexandra Georgieva Meet SBF Member Alexandra Georgieva, born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where she started dancing at the age of 6. Three years later she attended the State School for Ballet and Choreography in Sofia, where she graduated in 1985 as a State Certified Stage Dancer. The world's best dance pedagogues were among her teachers: Maris Liepa, Fea Balabina and Professor Kalina Bogoeva. She joined Friedrichstadt-Palast in 1990 as a dancer and six months later she got her first soloist part, which she held for 18 years, until 2008 when she became the Ballet Director.

We interviewed Alexandra to find out about how her career has evolved from being a dancer to becoming the Ballet Director at Friedrichstadt-Palast...

Meet SBF Member Anja Diefenbach, with a degree in Theatre Design and experience in Couture Tailoring. She was in charge of costumes and make-up at Friedrichstadt-Palast.

Hannah McDonagh Meet SBF Member Hannah McDonagh, a dancer from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, who is a striking example of passion, strength and determination, the kind that won't let anybody or anything stand between her and her dream. A series of unlucky events forced Hannah to put a stop to her plans of pursuing a career in classical ballet. However, where many other people would have just given up, she found the power inside her to turn the tables and change the course of her artistic life, enabling her to reach her goal of performing on stage.
